What is a DAP Server?

DAP is a Geosoft server technology that exposes the contents of earth science data repositories over networks. In particular, DAP is distinguished by its ability to host extremely large catalogues of data, each of which may also be very large. DAP provides for extremely fast metadata discovery, data visualization and data delivery. You will find government DAP servers that host national data sets and enterprises that use internal DAP servers to make corporate spatial data discoverable and accessible to their own teams.

See http://www.geosoft.com/pinfo/dap/index.asp for more information about DAP.

Adding a DAP Server to Dapple

  1. To add a new DAP server you need the URL for the server. For example, Geosoft’s public DAP server is "http://dap.geosoft.com".
  2. In Dapple on the File menu, click Add a DAP Server. The Add a DAP Server dialog is displayed.
  3. Enter the server URL in the text box provided and click [OK]. The server will be queried for the contents of its catalog, and display them along with other DAP servers you may have opened.
